Sitaram Yechury is the new General Secretary of CPI(M), Sitaram Yechury Biography

Sitaram Yechury is appointed as new General Secretary of Communist Party of India ( Marxist ) in 21st Party Cogress. Sitaram Yechury is the 5th General Secretary of CPI(M). There were speculations that Politbuero member S Ramachandran Pillai is also there in race for the post. Sources reports that mr. SRP told no for a direct fight between Yechury.

Sitaram Yechury will be successor to Prakash Karat. Kerala section of CPI(M) was supporing SRP while Bengal section and majority of Central Committe supported Sitaram Yechury. VS Achuthanandan yesterday in an unprecedented way wished Yechury for General Secretary. Yechury was unanimously chosen after Pillai chose to withdraw.

Sitaram Yechury is leader of CPI(M) in Rajya Sabha member and Politbuero member. Good communication skill and popularity all over india were advantage to Yechury. 62 year old Yechury will be much younger selection to General Secretary compared to 77 year old Ramachandran Pillai.

Parents : Sarveswara Somayaji Yechury and Kalpakam Yechury
Birth place : Chennai in a Telugu speaking Brahmin family
Education : Presidents Estate School, New Delhi and achieved the All-India first rank in the Central Board of Secondary Education Higher Secondary Examination. B.A. (Hons.) in Economics at the St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. M.A. in Economics, from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)
Political Career : In 1978, he elected as All-India Joint Secretary of SFI, and later All India President of SFI.
Central Committee member of the CPI(M) in 1985, the Central Secretariat in 1988 and to the Politburo at the Fourteenth Congress in 1992.
